TikTok creator and comedian Khabane Lame officially surpassed dancer Charli D’Amelio as the most followed content creator on the platform in September 2022. Lame, who is based in Italy, reached 162 million subscribers in August 2023. Influencer Charlie D'Amelio followed closely in second position with 151 million followers and singer Bella Poarch ranked third, with a total of 93 million followers.
TikTok global users
Popular video-sharing platform TikTok has gained immense popularity globally. As of January 2023, TikTok had over one billion monthly active users, making it one of the most widely used social media platforms worldwide. Around 54 percent of the total user base on TikTok were women, while approximately 46 percent of the popular social video platform users were men. In addition, TikTok has become a go-to platform for young people. As of the beginning of 2023, most of TikTok's global user base consisted of younger age groups, with 21.5 percent of TikTok's users being women aged between 18 and 24 years.
TikTok usage and audience
Since its launch in 2016, TikTok’s audience has increased significantly. As of January 2023, the United States and Indonesia were the countries with the largest TikTok audiences. The United States led with 113 million users, followed by Indonesia with 109 million users. The app has managed to catch users’ attention and keep its base entertained. So much so that, as of the second quarter of 2022, global users were spending around 95 minutes daily on TikTok, making it the most engaging among social media apps. Additionally, TikTok has quickly become one of the most popular platforms across different app stores. In September 2022, the video app had almost 24 million downloads on Google Play Store, making it the most downloaded app for Android users worldwide. In contrast, TikTok was the second most downloaded app on Apple App Store, with approximately 7.5 million global users downloads in the same month.
As of 2023, Neymar's 222 million euro move to Paris Saint-Germain was the most expensive soccer transfer of all time, with Kylian Mbappé's move to the Parisian club ranking second. Meanwhile, the most expensive Premier League signing of all time, Enzo Fernández, ranked sixth overall.
Seen the popularity of the YouTube platform among younger users and children, kids-themed YouTube channels are among the most popular types of content on the platform. As of September 2023, ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs was the most subscribed kids' content channel with approximately 67.3nmillion subscribers. Spanish-language channel El Reino Infantil ranked second with approximately 60 million subscribers, while Masha and the Bear ranked third with 44 million subscribers.
Kids on YouTube
According to a survey of global parents conducted in September 2022, over half of the respondents reported that watching YouTube videos was a popular online activity their children chose to engage with. In the United States, children were using the YouTube app to watch content for over one hour daily on average in 2021.
Children media consumption
As of May 2022, software, audio, and video content were the most popular categories for global children to interact with online, with approximately 44 percent of younger users visiting and engaging with these content formats. Between 52 percent and 55 percent of children in India, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa were reported visiting software, audio, and video websites between 2020 and 2021.

Hotel companies worldwide
The total number of properties owned by global hotel chain Wyndham amounted for nearly nine thousand units in 2022. In terms of guestrooms, the company had just over 810 thousand that year. This figure was roughly 520 thousand hotel rooms less than Marriott International’s total.
Customer satisfaction
Hyatt Place and AC Hotels by Marriot were some of the highest-rated upscale hotel brands in North America in 2022. When it came to North America’s mid-scale hotel brands, Wingate by Wyndham led the 2022 list with a customer satisfaction index score of 849. The guest satisfaction scores were measured on a one-thousand-point scale. Several factors, such as reservation, hotel services, cost and fees were analyzed to determine the overall satisfaction score.
The monthly median asking rent for unfurnished apartments in the United States rose by about 130 U.S. dollars between 2020 and 2021, reaching 1,821 U.S. dollars. This was the largest rent hike since the beginning of the observation period. In 2022, rents continued to grow, but at a slower rate.
The U.S. rental market
As rental apartment vacancy rates fall, rents are on the rise. This makes it more difficult for Americans to first, find an apartment to rent, and second, find an apartment which they can afford. Nevertheless, renting has become much more common in recent years, with the number of renter households having substantially increased in the past two decades. In 2021, there were approximately 44 million renter households in the U.S..

Of course, rents vary from state to state. The most expensive rents are found in Hawaii, California, District of Colombia, New Jersey, and Florida. In fact, Florida was the state with the highest rental growth in 2021. When it comes down to affordability, however, the highest hourly wages which are needed to afford a two-bedroom apartment were in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, and District of Colombia.
In August 2023, China's monthly labor cost index ranged at 69.8 index points. This was down from 72.1 points in the previous month.
In 2022, Fast Retailing was the leading fashion company in Japan with sales exceeding 2.3 trillion Japanese yen. The clothing manufacturer and retailer owns the casual wear brand Uniqlo, which is the main contributor to the group company’s sales with its worldwide business operations.
The Japanese ceramics and electronics manufacturer Kyocera ranked in second place, manufacturing and selling jewelry and accessories.
The Japanese fashion industry
The domestic apparel market showed stable retail sales in the decade before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, with womenswear being the main market segment. However, manufacturers have been exploring new market opportunities within the menswear segment through trending casual wear styles and other alternatives to formal wear. Workwear suits were expected to show continued growth in popularity, being considered a more comfortable alternative made from functional materials as compared to deep-rooted business suits.
Japanese fashion trends
Trends within the Japanese fashion market are inspired and influenced by a variety of domestic and foreign sources, ranging from global trends to influencers on social networking services (SNS), popular culture, and traditional crafts. The Tokyo Fashion Week is the largest fashion event in Japan, at which prominent and small labels showcase their newest styles and creations. Outside of the semi-annual event in the capital city, local fashion shows in other prefectures like Fukuoka and Aichi target the general public with their showcases of domestic casual wear brands.
Mexico was the most visited destination by international tourists in Latin America in 2022, surpassing 38 million tourist arrivals in that year. In the second place, but far behind, was the Dominican Republic.
A global tourism powerhouse
By developing airport infrastructure and calibrating new direct flights, Mexico has set international tourism high on its priorities list. At the forefront of Mexico's spike in international tourism is the FONATUR, or Mexico's National Fund for Tourism Development. The tourism body worked in the expansion of Cancun's airport and other four key tourist airports in the country. Plus, Mexico City's airport added new international direct flights in the 2010s, resulting in being rated as the best internationally connected airport in Latin America in 2019. With this and other developments in this sector, the North American country managed to rank among the top 20 destinations in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Ranking that year.
South America's tourism leader
Through its geographically diverse landscape and globally recognized wine industry, Argentina has grown its international tourism sector. The influx of foreign visitors to Argentina can in some way be attributed to the country's air-travel infrastructure. The national air carrier, Aerolineas Argentinas, was one of the top airline operating in Latin America in 2019. That same year, passenger traffic to Argentinian airports grew by four percent. Though in April 2020, in the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the arrival of international air travel tourists to Argentina came to a complete halt, ensuing a similar fate of the global tourism industry.
Capital expenditure for the Department of Education in England was 4.9 billion British pounds in the 2021/22 financial year, with planned expenditure for 2022/23 rising to 6.4 billion pounds. This type of expenditure concerns the purchasing, investment, and maintenance of fixed assets such as buildings. Although education capital spending amounted to over nine billion pounds per year prior to 2011/12, this was cut to 6.4 billion pounds in 2011/12, and has gradually declined further since that financial year.
