Apartment rent in the United States in 2020-2022, by state
Apartment rents spiked across the United States, with all states experiencing an increase in the monthly rent between March 2021 and March 2022. In Hawaii and California, the two most expensive states, prices prices exceeded 2,000 U.S. dollars per month. In some states, rental costs increased by more than 20 percent. Nationwide, the average monthly rent was 1,322 U.S. dollars as of February 2022.
