Traditional Indian beverages
The most beloved traditional beverage, masala chai (masala tea), is popular among Indians and the world despite the seasons, and a symbol of hospitality for people in the country. Other ethnic beverages made from all-time cherished fruit mangoes are Aam Panna and Aamras, which offers heat resistance and are rich in vitamins. In addition, Jal-Jeera made from cumin seeds is also a popular summer beverage. Kashmiri Kahwa (tea), another hot beverage made from a spice mix, is suitable for freezing winters in Northern India. Another delicious, nutritious beverage is lassi, a yogurt-based drink, that can be had either sweet or salted.Even after the arrival of international brands such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi, the taste of domestic summer beverage brands such as Rooh Afza, Rasna, and Glucon-D is nostalgic to many Indians. From the famous Delhi Banta Soda, Shikanji (lemonade) to Mumbai’s famous Chuski (ice candy) these traditional summer drinks are the means of sustenance for many street vendors across the country.
